    • Resumen: Abstract: Despite the economic growth that Colombia has had in the past decade, unemployment and informal employment rates have remained high, especially in vulnerable populations. This is a serious social and economic problem as it impedes individuals from expanding their knowledge and skills, increasing their income, and ultimately, improving their living conditions. As a response to this challenge, the government has implemented numerous Active Labour Market Policies (ALMPs), which include skills training and job placement support programmes. In recent years, efforts have been oriented to assess the effectiveness of these programmes. Overall, the results of the impact evaluations that have been carried out, found that these programmes increase formal employment. One element that is relevant in the mid-long-term effectiveness of these programmes is job permanency. One concern that has been present in these programmes – and in general in the labour market - is the high turnover rates even in environments with high unemployment rates. However, there is limited literature on the factors that motivate and influence participants of these programmess to remain in their jobs. Considering the above, this research identifies the factors that influence job permanency of programmes that seek to train and place Colombian vulnerable populations in formal jobs. Based on the programme Cali Progresa con Empleo, 22 interviews, and a quantitative analysis of their data base, it was found that multiple and diverse factors related with the sociodemographic characteristics of participants, the design and delivery of the programme, and the dynamics within hiring companies affect job permanency. Particularly, interpersonal relationships with supervisors, payment on time, higher wages, rotating schedules, workload, and childcare obligations are the factors that most likely influence job permanency.
